Technical benefits

Using expanded glass instead of solid beads reduces the density of the compound. Other grades exist, including impact-modified and flame-retardant with a renewable based version available.

Look and feel

The glass beads create a surface appearance that resembles grainy stone. They also improve scratch resistance and reduce the risk of visible weld lines and sink marks. Produced mainly in black; other colours available on request.

Environmental benefits

The ingredients of these  compounds are up to 100% sustainable.
The PA is from post-industrial recyclates and the expanded glass beads are made from 100% post-consumer recycled glass.
With only 0.52 kg CO2eq/kg the filler has a low carbon footprint. Compared with commonly used fillers, the expanded glass beads offer a reduction in Global Warming Potential (GWP), respectively. The density of the compound is lower than that of a corresponding talc compound that results in low weight end-products.

Applications

Suitable for injection moulding, this grade can be implemented in various applications such as housing parts of consumer electronics and home appliances.

Kitchen Tools
Consumer Electronics
Consumer Goods

Why we chose this material

We found it interesting that both the base polymer and the glass filler are 100% recycled. This is still exceptional today.

We also liked the idea of reduced product weight.

Why you should consider this material

  • You consider the decreased weight as a benefit for your product.

  • You want a material with a significantly low carbon footprint.

About the manufacturer

PoraComp is a specialist in the modification and refinement of different thermoplastics (e.g., PP, PE, PA and engineering polymers) with the in-house products Poraver® expanded glass beads and Mikrover® intermediate filler, both made from recycled glass. By using functional fillers made from resource-saving recycled glass, as well as resins with a high percentage of recycled content, they increase the sustainability and reduce the carbon footprint of their product portfolio.
