EMERGE™ PC/ABS 7590E60 / PCR
What is this PCR polymer?
EMERGE™ ECO Advanced Resins are a family of engineered PC and PC/ABS. This family of products contain up to 95% post consumer recycled (PCR) polycarbonate that is carefully and selectively sourced. This enables the production of PCR-containing resins in white and even transparent color. This member of the product family contains 60% post-consumer recycled (PCR) polycarbonate, without chlorine or bromine additives. It has a good fire resistance and provides easy processability for moulding thin-wall parts.

Technical benefits
PC/ABS blends offer a distinct balance of characteristics, including mechanical properties, thermal resistance, colour stability, and processability. This grade has been modified for improved fire resistance (UL94 V0).
Look and feel
Even with a high recycled content, these materials maintain a high quality of surface appearance, and good gloss. Various colours are possible to match.
Environmental benefits
A life cycle analysis (LCA) conducted on EMERGE™ PC/ABS with 60% PCR content shows that this grade, compared with virgin PC/ABS, reduces:
GWP (Global Warming Potential) by 60%
Water consumption by 71%
Energy consumption by 59%
Applications
• Electronics and electrical appliances
• Charger and adaptor enclosures
• Telecommunication equipment
Why we chose this PCR polymer
Most post-consumer recycled thermoplastics are commodity plastics such as polypropylene, polyethylene, polystyrene, and PET. The big streams of recycled plastic come from the packaging industry. Polycarbonate is a higher value engineering polymer and is more typically used in consumer products where the recycling rate is, unfortunately, still relatively low.
We found it interesting how this PC/ABS blend, with a high degree of recycled content, can retain its good visual and mechanical properties.
Why you should consider this material
-
You need a sustainable alternative to virgin PC/ABS
-
You need an engineering polymer for rigid housing parts
-
You need a fire-resistant material
