Bornewables™ RF365MO
What is it?
A specially modified, transparent, bio-based polypropylene (PP) random copolymer based on renewable feedstock using the mass-balance method (ISCC Plus certified). It is made using sustainably sourced renewable feedstocks, derived solely from waste and residue vegetable oils such as used cooking oil, and residues from vegetable oil processing. This grade is designed for high-speed injection moulding with medium melt flow rate, containing nucleating and demolding additives.

Environmental benefits
By using this mass-balanced grade, you are contributing to lower CO₂ emissions. An LCA conducted by IFEU Heidelberg concluded that you can save over 120% CO₂ in comparison with virgin PP. The study compared the production of 1kg PP "at gate,” meaning every production step and raw material till it is packed and ready to be shipped to the customer, excluding packaging. The production of fossil-based PP will produce 2.14kg CO₂ for every 1kg PP produced, whereas production of the Bornewables™ PP results in a negative -0.44kg CO₂, saving 2.6kg of CO₂. In addition, the fossil resource use is reduced by about 68% and the non-renewable energy demand is reduced by 70%.
Applications
This material has been developed especially for closures, thin wall containers and bottles.
Why we chose this material
Polypropylene is cost-competitive, versatile, easy to recycle, collected in most countries, and hardly in shortage. Therefore, unfortunately, many converters and brand owners choose 100% fossil-based PP grades for their products. We like to promote alternative solutions such as this mass-balanced renewable PP grade.
Why you should consider this material
-
You need a high-gloss, transparent, polymer.
-
You need a material that is approved for food contact applications.
-
You are looking for a material with a bio-based content that substantially reduces the environmental impact, in terms of energy used and CO₂ produced.
